WHAT IS THE S.A.F.?

* The Sports Aid Foundation (Y & H) is one of a network of regional companies providing financial support for international and potential international competitors.

* In excess of 3,000 regional sportsmen and women - most of them youngsters - have been helped with more than £500,000.00.

* The S.A.F. assists the most gifted and well known athletes in the country. Nearly every British Olympic competitor has been helped by S.A.F.

* One of S.A.F.'s fundamental beliefs is that an individual's ability to develop his or her sporting talent Should not solely depend upon parents being able to afford the cost of training and competition.

* In 1976 this region was the first to establish a fund to assist the gifted in sport. In 1978 this became the first Regional Company of the S.A.F.

* To fund grants, the Sports Aid Foundation depends entirely on its voluntary workers, public support and donations.

* Grants are awarded for legitimate out of pocket expenses, such as travel for training and competition. items of personal equipment, coaching fees, special foods, etc.
Applications for grants are submitted by governing bodies of sport on behalf of individuals.

* The main conditions are that the competitor:-

  • is an amateur
  • lives in the Yorkshire and Humberside Region
  • has already attained county/regional level status and is expected to compete with distinction in National/Intemational Championships.
  • * A committee of advisers with wide sports knowledge and experience meets quarterly and make recommendations on the level of grants etc., for the subsequent approval by the Board of Governors.

    HELP BRITAIN STAY GREAT
    - SUPPORT S.A.F.

You can help our promising sportsmen and women to bring sporting honours to Yorkshire and Humberside.

As a 13 year old schoolboy Adrian Moorhouse received his first S.A.F. grant to help with his training expenses. It proved to be a good investment.

A few years ago, as World record holder and Olympic champion he launched our 'Patrons Scheme' and now, for a nominal annual subscription, individuals or companies can become a 'friend' to S.A.F. and help other potential gold medallists from our region chase their dreams and follow in his footsteps.
