ASA POLICY - MIXED TEAMS

The policy of the Amateur Swimming Association and Amateur Swimming Federation of Great Britain is that where mixed teams are involved, there should be both male and female members of staff present. This can be achieved by careful appointment of the team staff and other support staff. It is important, however, that team welfare is catered for, both from a male and female perspective, particularly if the trip involves overnight accommodation.

Wherever possible, it is clearly advisable, particularly when overnight accommodation is involved, for both male and female staff to be appointed. However, where this is not possible it would be acceptable for a senior member of the team to have team welfare duties allocated to them, provided of course they are staying in the same hotel.

The Association, however, recognises that inevitably there may be occasions when it is simply impossible to meet this criteria, and under these circumstances it would be important to clarify clearly in the minds of the parents of the swimmers, when they are juniors, that the team will be under the management of either all-male or all-female, as is appropriate, team staff.
