17th CHESTER MASTERS SWIMMING TOURNAMENT 1998

INFORMATION SHEET

City of Chester Swimming Club is again organising a Masters Swimming Toumament this year, to be held at City Baths, Chester on Saturday 14th November 1998. Details are set out below:-

AGE GROUPS
These will be determined by your age on 31 st December 1998 and are as follows:- 

A   25-29yrs   E   45-49yrs   J   65-69yrs
B   30-34yrs   F   50-54yrs   K   70-74yrs
C   35-39yrs   G   55-59yrs   L   75-79yrs
D   40-44yrs   H   60-64yrs   M   80yrs and over

TIMETABLE
In this year's tounament the swimming events will run in two sessions with a lunch break at approximately 12.30pm. The competition pool will be available from 8.45am for warm up; a 20 yard pool will be available throughout the day for warm up and swim down.

INDIVIDUAL EVENTS AND DISTANCES
A swimmer may take part in up to five individual events, as follows: 

  100 yds Individual Medley
  Backstroke:       either 50 yds or 100 yds but not both;
  Breaststroke:     either 50 yds or 100 yds but not both;
  Butterfly:        either 50 yds or l00 yds but not both;
  Freestyle:        one of 50 yds, 100 yds or 200 yds.
The order of events will be:
  200/100/50 yds Freestyle
  100/50 yds Butterfly
  100 yds Individual Medley
  100/50 yds Backstroke
  l00/50 yds Breaststroke
  Medley Relays
  Freestyle Relays

Each event will be contested for each of the age groups A - M, and places within those age groups will be determined on the basis of times recorded in heats. Please submit your times for the events you enter on the entry form - this will enable us to make a suitable allocation of lanes in the heats. The length of the pool is 25 yds.

RELAY TEAM EVENTS
In addition to the individual events, there will be both freestyle and medley (i.e. backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle) relay team events of 4 x 50 yards for both men and women. The age groups for both men and women. There will be separate events for each of the three age groups as follows: 

	Total age 120 and over
	Total age 160 and over
	Total age 200 and over
In each case, there is no upper limit on the age of swimmers who take part in these events, but each swimmer must be 25 or over.

PRIZES

  1. INDIVIDUAL PRIZES. Points will be awarded on the results of individual events within each age group (lst 5 points, 2nd 3 points, 3rd 2 points, other finishers 1 point) and prizes will be awarded to the three swimmers with the highest points total in each age group. In the event of equal points the competitor with the most event wins will be awarded the higher placing. If this is also equal a tie exists.
  2. CLUB COMPETITION. Individual points totals, plus points awarded in the relay team events, will be aggregated for each club. A Trophy will be presented to the Club with the highest points total.
  3. RELAY TEAM PRIZES. Medals will be awarded to the members of each winning relay team.

RECORDS. Records are maintained for each event and are published in the programme.

REFRESHMENTS
Snacks and light meals will be available on the premises throughout the day.

PRESENTATION AND SOCIAL GATHERING
A presentation and social gathering will follow the day's swimming at The Stafford Hotel, close to City Baths. See the separate sheet (attached) for details and an order form for any meals required.

Please enter by using the attached form or a photocopy.

PLEASE NOTE THAT, IN THE LIGHT OF THE HIGH LEVEL OF SUPPORT FOR THIS EVENT, THE NUMBER OF ENTRlES THAT CAN BE ACCEPTED WILL HAVE TO BE LIMITED.

IT IS REGRETTED THAT NO ENTRIES CAN BE ACCEPTED AFTER MONDAY l2th OCTOBER 1998.

ENTRY FEES are as follows: 

      Individual entry:     £8.00 per person - irrespective of number of events entered.
      Relay team entry:     £3.00 per team entered.

PLEASE ENCLOSE a 9" X 4" STAMPED ADDRESSED ENVELOPE. Final details and directions to City Baths will be sent on to you.

CHESTER MASTERS 1998: MENS 1650 yds/WOMENS 900yds

We will again be holding Masters events at 1650 yards for men and 900 yards for women on the evening of Fridav l4th November - i.e. the evening prior to the Chester Masters Tournament.

These events remain completely separate from the Saturday Masters Tournament: results from these events will not count towards either individual or club overall prizes. The events will commence at 6.39pm.

If you would like to swim in this event, please complete the entry portion on this sheet. An entry fee of £3.00 is payable.

Support for the 'distance' events is high and due to the limitations of time and space, it is necessary to limit the number of entries that can be accepted. Please note, therefore, that entries will be accepted on a 'first come, first served' basis.

This will take place at the Stafford Hotel, City Road, Chester on completion of the Swimming Events.

The presentation of prizes will take place as early as possible.

There will be a disco, and bar ertension. All are welcome to attend.

Food will be available, but must be ordered in advance.

Meal tickets will be sent out with entry cards, or ready for collection on arrival at City Baths for later orders.
the hotel restaurant is available for booking - full meals are available from £11.95. Please arrange directly with the Hotel for any table reservations required.
