ANNUAL OPEN MEET - SEPTEMBER 2OTH 1997. *************************************** TOP CLUB AWARD. *************** In previous years, Gloucester has held an Inter Club gala in March, where clubs have competed for the Ray Hill Memorial trophy. Ray was a member of the club who enjoyed Masters swimming so much that he kindly arranged sponsorship on many occasions for the benefit of the club. After his death, his widow presented a trophy to the club in his memory which the club have competed for ever since. This year, however, due to a number of circumstances, it has not been possible to arrange a viable Inter club gala and so the Committee have decided to incorporate the trophy into this year's Open Meet. This will be done by holding a "Top Club" competition within the Open Meet itself. Consequently, a points system will operate on the day of the Meet and swimmers who achieve medal positions will be awarded points accordingly. At the end of the Meet the accumulated total for each club will determine the winner of the Trophy. It is important therefore, that each club is well represented and so I urge you to promote the event to all your swimmers. Also, for the first time this year, we will be holding a 19 - 24 age group category thus enabling many younger swimmers who train regularly to compete in probably their first Masters' event. We look forward to seeing you all in September for what should be a first class event. Best Wishcs, Mary Escolme. Club Administrator.
