The 16th Mid Sussex Open Medleys
for all age groups including Masters
under ASA Laws

at the Dolphin Leisure Centre Pool, Haywards Heath

There are two competitions: A) For all age groups (including over 25s); B) For Masters, who shall be 25 years or over

The events are:
INDIVIDUAL EVENTs: 4x1 length (33.3m) individual medleys for both sexes
Heats

10 years and under provided born between 28/09/87 and 31/12/88; 11 years; 12 years; 13 years; 14 years; 15 years; 16 years; 17-19 years; 20-24 years; 25 years plus. Masters: 25 years and over. Ages as at 27th September 1998. Swimmers may enter only their own age group event
Junior Grand Finals
The fastest four or more, swimmers from the heats of the 10-13 years age groups go forward to male and female Junior Grand Finals which will be swum at the end of the first session.
Open Grand Final
The fastest four, or more, swimmers from age groups 10-24 years plus, will qualify for the male and female Open Grand Finals, swum at the end of the 2nd session.

TEAM EVENTS: 4 x 1 length mixed medley relays
Teams to be made up of 2 females, 2 males, swimming in any order, with an aggregate age on 27/09/98 of
a). 50 years or under
b). 70 years or under
c). Masters: 100 years and over 4 x 1 length MEDLEY relay
d). Masters: 160 years and over 4 x 1 length MEDLEY relay
Clubs may enter one or more teams but competitors shall swim for one team only
The order of the events will depend on the entries received.

Awards
Trophies to be held for one year or until the next Meet, whichever is the soonest.
a). The Suzuki Cars GB/CMW Automobiles Group perpetual trophies will be presented to the winners of the Junior Grand Finals.
b). The Laing Homes perpetual trophies will be awarded to the winners of the Grand Open Finals together with WH Smith vouchers presented by Haywards Heath SC to the value of £30, £25, £20, £15, £12 and £10 to the top six places.
c). Medals will be awarded to the top 3 positions for each age group on a "timed heat, declared winner" basis. Rosettes are presented to the top 12 positions in each of the 4 youngest age groups (10, 11, 12, 13) and for the top 6 positions for the other age groups, excluding Masters.
Medals will also be awarded for the first three teams in each team final event.
d). The Brown Shipley perpetual trophies will be presented to the clubs with the most points for males and females and for Masters.

Points system
Points will be awarded for all events, including team races, except the Grand Finals as follows: 1st position: 12 points, 2nd position -10 points, 3rd position -8 points, 4th position - 6 points; 5th position - 4 points; 6th position -2 points and 1 point thereafter up to 10th position


COMPETITION RULES

All entrants must be members of an ASA affliated club and be registered with the ASA

Please note that ages are as at 27th September 1998. It is the swimmer's responsibility to ensure that he/she swims in the correct event and age group category.

All entries to be on official entry forms, or clear photocopies, with £3 entry fee per swimmer for individual events and £6.00 per team for relays and an A5 sae to be received by midnight, Sunday 16th August 1998.

HHSC will accept a 100 or 200 metre medley time if no other is available, please indicate clearly on the entry form if the time submitted is for a different distance.

Entries will be seeded into heats from the time submitted generally in age groups, but the organisers reserved the right to combine age groups depending on the number of entries. Where this is done, it will not affect the awards for each group.

Masters Competition will use the 'Finnish' age conversion formula, (which adjusts swimmers' times back to age 24) to find the three fastest swimmers in 3 age groups categories. The age groups are likely to be: 25-39, 40-49 and 50+ but may be different depending on number of entries. Medals will be awarded to the first 3 swimmers in each group.

A card and computer system will be used to regulate the operation of the meet. Cards will be sent to all swimmers accepted for each event, provided an s.a.e. is sent with entries. On the day of the Meet these must be placed in the box provided at least 30 minutes prior to the start of each session. Completed cards will be available for collection at the end of the session, apart from those in session l where there is a likelihood a swimmer could be involved in the Grand Finals.

All gala data is held on computer. By submitting entries, consent is thereby given, as required under the Data Protection Act, 1984, to the holding of personal information on a computer. Personal data, including submitted and recorded times may be made public during the Meet.

Electronic timing will be used if possible.

Competitors must report to the whips at least one clear age group before their own. Competitors for the first 2 events of each session must report to the whips after the end of the warm up period.

Competitors for the Junior Grand Finals will be declared as soon as possible after the conclusion of its last heat. Following the announcement, finalists are expected to report immediately to the whips. Competitors for the Open Grand Finals will be declared within 15 minutes of the conclusion of the 'A' competition. The swimmers concerned must present themselves for the Finals as soon as requested.

Any competitor not reporting on time may be excluded from his/her event.

The competitor's card allow swimmers on poolside only for the session in which they are competing. Swimmers are not admitted to the gallery or cafeteria area in swimwear. The diving pit and teaching pool are strictly out of bounds.

Coaches passes to the poolside must be applied for in advance. Cost: £6.00 for 2 sessions.

Sets of results will be available by post. Please leave your address at the desk with £2.50 or order in advance with entries.
