The information in these pages is provided free of charge by the organisers of the British swimming competitions, collectively referred to as "Swim Organisers".

The Swim Organisers retain the right to change any of this information without prior notice as and when they decide. Most of the British competitions covered are held annually and it is intended that the information will be updated correspondingly. While every attempt has been made to ensure the accuracy of information provided, the swim organisers take no responsibility for the consequences of use of this information.

THE COMPETITIONS

These on-line pages describe the various aspects of most British Swimming Competitions listed in the "The Age Group and Masters Competitions" pages. Other British swimming competitions and Clubs with their own web site can be found in the "Links" pages.

For each competition it is hoped to provide a printable photo-image entry form, details and conditions and results. A 'photo' preview giving a swimmers impression of the competition will be provided where possible to prepare you for your visit.

WARNINGS:

This website is designed, produced and maintained within a defined scope and policy.

Users of these pages should also be aware of the following:

  • Information may not be completely up-to-date (although it may be the latest available). For example, Entry forms, Programmes and results may be a year out of date because the competitions are held annually. To help you determine currency, links to information give the date of the information.
  • Results may not be 100% accurate. Many results have been obtained by optical reader (scanner) from paper photocopies of originals - with read errors. Where errors have been detected, they have been corrected, but some will still be present. You can often deduce such errors from their context. E.g. "Soutliport" should read "Southport", "32,4Q" should read "32.40" etc.
  • Meet Records will usually be AT LEAST ONE YEAR OUT-OF-DATE. This is because the records are not published until they are included in the programme for the subsequent year. By the time that programme is put on the internet, many of the records will have been broken at the current year's meet.
  • The quality of entry forms is currently rather poor, and similar in quality to faxes. This is because the forms are "photo-images" (which are like photo-copies when printed) as required by most meet organisers. To keep the forms small enough to transmit economically, 150 dpi (dots per inch) is being used. Better images are possible, but, for example, 300 dpi would take four times longer to transmit. In some cases, where organisers have agreed, alternative entry forms, e.g. in MS WORD document format, are provided. These are better quality and quicker to transmit and should be used.

    ADVICE:

    The following advice is intended to save you time (and money).

    Results files are quite large (e.g. 20-30 Kb) so it is not advisable to print them or study them on-line. It is suggested that you copy them to your own computer and print them or study them later, off-line.

    To do this use the following procedure:

    1. Connect to the Internet and access these pages.
    2. Retrieve the required page by clicking on its (underlined) reference (or link).
    3. Copy it to your local disk by selecting the "FILE" option, then the "SAVE AS" option.
    4. Specify your disk: E.g. use A:/RESULTS.HTM or C:/TEMP/RESULTS.HTM
    5. Repeat (steps 2 to 4) for all results required, giving each file a unique local name.
    6. Disconnect from the Internet.
    7. Read a set of results with your browser by selecting "FILE" option, "OPEN" and "OPEN FILE" options.
    8. Provide the local filename: e.g. use A:/RESULTS.HTM or C:/TEMP/RESULTS.HTM
    9. Print or study the results file(s) from your disk.
    10. Note that results are indexed by event. The index is downloaded with the file, so it can be used locally. You can also search result files using your browser's search/find facility, e.g. search for your name in the results. This may be quicker than scrolling through all the results.
    11. A similar method can be used to download any other large files encountered. Note that images (pictures, logos, photographs, etc) can be down-loaded by clicking on them with the right hand side mouse button and using "SAVE IMAGE AS".
