The Midland District Masters Committee invites you to a one-day seminar for Masters swimmers at the Coventry Sports Centre. Fairfax Street, Coventry, on Sunday 29 March 1998.
We have been very fortunate in having Chris Martin coming to address us. Chris is the newly appointed coach of the City of Birmingham squad. He has been six time the US national coach and was one of the assistant coaches on the 1992 US Olympic team. His swimmers have medalled at the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games, and he was one of the coaches with the GB team at the 1998 World Championships in Perth.
This seminar is open to all Masters swimmers, triathietes, fitness swimmers, and friends, and is not confined to members of Midland District clubs.
The programme for the day is as follows:
11.00 am Arrive
11.30 am - 1.00 pm Fitness testing in the Bodyline Station
Each participant will be able to be tested in the following areas: bodyfat and body
composition analysis; blood pressure and heart rate; lung functions (up to four different
tests); strength; flexibility; V02 (beep step or step test); cholesterol (at additional
cost). Results and analysis will be mailed to participants. (We have been very fortunate
in negotiating a discount price for this facility.)
1.30 pm - 3.15 pm Long course swim training
An opportunity to train in the 50-metre pool. Schedules will be set for different ability
and technique groups within the time available.
3.30 pm - 4.30 pm Talk/lecture
Chris Martin, the new head coach to the City of Birmingham squad, has agreed to
speak on the latest trends in swim training and how these affect masters swimmers.
4.30 pm - 4.45 pm Coffee and biscuits
4.45 pm -5.30 pm Open discussion forum: topics affecting Masters in
the Midlands (and beyond)
If you wish to take part please return the form attached with a cheque for £15 payable to "ASA Midland District" to me, together with a stamped addressed envelope. Please make sure you sign the standard disclaimer on the back of the form.
"Auditors" will be welcome. if you wish to come and observe the testing and swim training, and listen in to the seminar and discussion you wiil be welcome. There is a £5 fee payable by those attending in this way.
I am sure we will be able to offer participants an interesting and stimulating day, which has been modelled on simliar successful events held locally. Should more applications be received than there are places available, priority will be given to those who reply soonest-so act now !!

4. I further undertake at all times to take all reasonable safety measures for the protection of myself and fellow swimmers and to inform the referee (or other official person)of any concerns I may have as regards safety.
5. I acknowledge that during Masters Swimming events the ASA Midland District cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to personal belongings and that I must take all reasonable steps against any such loss or damage.
6. I hereby agree to abide by and be governed by the rules of the Amateur Swimming Association and all other laws and conditions applicable including the ASA Safety Laws and the Conditions of the ASA Midland District.
