WELSH OPEN MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS
1. The Championship is an open event, and the venue for the meet is Penian
Swimming Pool (8 Lane 25m with built in electronic timing), Penlan, Swansea. The
meet will be held from 6th-8th March 1998.
2. The entry fee is £3.75 per individual event, mid £7.50 per team event. Entries
must be received at the WASA Office, Wales Empire Pool, Wood Street,
Cardiff, CFl 1PP no later than Friday 6th February 1998. Please include a
stamped addressed envelope (at least A5 size) for confirmation of entries.
Cheques made payable to WASA please.
3. The card posting system will apply for this event.
3.1 After the closing date for entries, the WASA Office in Cardiff will forward
you an entry card for each event.
3.2 Please ensure that you bring your card(s) with you to the meet.
3.3 All cards for the sessions events must be posted in the re-entry box at least 45
minutes prior to the start of that session. You are not considered to be in the race
until your card has been placed in the re-entry box. Failure to make this secondary
entry within the stipulated time will cancel your right to compete in the event.
However, you may be allowed to swim in unallocated lanes in earlier heats in the
same event, if available. This shall be on a first come first served basis at the
discretion of the Referee.
3.4 Swimmers shall be placed in graduated time order, slowest to fastest,
regardless of age group.
3.5 The re-entry boxes will be situated in the foyer.
3.6 When the heats have been arranged, your card showing heat and lane number
will be available for your collection from the table on poolside. LISTEN FOR
ANNOUNCEMENTS.
3.7 It is the responsibility of each and every competitor to present themselves at
the starting end of their allotted lane in good time for the heat in which they are due
to swim.
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO BE AT THE START IN TIME FOR
YOUR EVENT.
4. RELAYS:
Card posting rules apply. When the relay cards are sent out by the WASA Office,
there will be a form which each relay team must complete with names, ages
and dates of birth and then post with their card on the day.
5. ALL COMPETITORS:
No previous experience of competition is necessary - the ability to dive start is not
essential, starting in the water is permitted in all events. If you are unable to
execute a competent shallow racing dive DO NOT dive from either the bathside or
starting blocks at any time during the meet. No swimmer should topple into the
water in the event of a false start - a proper shallow racing dive must be performed.
6. The Age Groups are as follows: (as at 31/12/1998)
GROUP A B C D E F G
AGE 25/29 30/34 35/39 40/44 45/49 50/54 55/59

with warm-up organisation may result in exclusion from that session. DIVING IN
WARM UP IS PROHIBITED EXCEPT IN SPRINT LANES.
9. NO FALSE START RULE WILL APPLY. (TO BE CONFIRMED) A
DEFINITION OF THE NO FALSE START PROCEDURE WILL BE RETUPNED
WITH RE-ENTRY CARDS)
10. HEALTH AND INSURANCE ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE

ASFGB or WASA Medical Officer for an exemption aHowing the banned substance but
the application must be supported by a certificate from a qualified medical practitioner
setting out the reasons why the banned substance is necessary. EXEMPTIONS WILL
ONLY BE GRANTED IN CASES OF CLEAR AND COMPELLING CLINICAL NEED.
The decision of the M.O.H. (Medical Officer of Health) is final.

prescribed drugs must report to the medical officer present BEFORE THE
