WELSH OPEN MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS

1.	The Championship is an open event, and the venue for the meet is Penian
	Swimming Pool (8 Lane 25m with built in electronic timing), Penlan, Swansea. The
	meet will be held from 6th-8th March 1998.

2.	The entry fee is £3.75 per individual event, mid £7.50 per team event. Entries
	must be received at the WASA Office, Wales Empire Pool, Wood Street,
	Cardiff, CFl 1PP no later than Friday 6th February 1998. Please include a
	stamped addressed envelope (at least A5 size) for confirmation of entries.
	Cheques made payable to WASA please.

3.	The card posting system will apply for this event.
	3.1	After the closing date for entries, the WASA Office in Cardiff will forward
	you an entry card for each event.
	3.2	Please ensure that you bring your card(s) with you to the meet.
	3.3	All cards for the sessions events must be posted in the re-entry box at least 45
	minutes prior to the start of that session. You are not considered to be in the race
	until your card has been placed in the re-entry box. Failure to make this secondary
	entry within the stipulated time will cancel your right to compete in the event.
	However, you may be allowed to swim in unallocated lanes in earlier heats in the
	same event, if available. This shall be on a first come first served basis at the
	discretion of the Referee.
	3.4	Swimmers shall be placed in graduated time order, slowest to fastest,
	regardless of age group.
	3.5	The re-entry boxes will be situated in the foyer.
	3.6	When the heats have been arranged, your card showing heat and lane number
	will be available for your collection from the table on poolside. LISTEN FOR
	ANNOUNCEMENTS.
	3.7	It is the responsibility of each and every competitor to present themselves at
	the starting end of their allotted lane in good time for the heat in which they are due
	to swim.
	IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO BE AT THE START IN TIME FOR
	YOUR EVENT.

4.	RELAYS:

	Card posting rules apply. When the relay cards are sent out by the WASA Office,
	there will be a form which each relay team must complete with names, ages
	and dates of birth and then post with their card on the day.

5.	ALL COMPETITORS:
	No previous experience of competition is necessary - the ability to dive start is not
	essential, starting in the water is permitted in all events. If you are unable to
	execute a competent shallow racing dive DO NOT dive from either the bathside or
	starting blocks at any time during the meet. No swimmer should topple into the
	water in the event of a false start - a proper shallow racing dive must be performed.


6. The Age Groups are as follows: (as at 31/12/1998) GROUP A B C D E F G AGE 25/29 30/34 35/39 40/44 45/49 50/54 55/59 GROUP H J K L M N O AGE 60/64 65/69 70/74 75/79 80/84 85/89 90+ 7. All events are Heat Declared Winner in Age Classification. The events will be swum in submitted time order from slowest to fastest. 8. There will be a 1 hour warm-up before the start of each session. Failure to comply with warm-up organisation may result in exclusion from that session. DIVING IN WARM UP IS PROHIBITED EXCEPT IN SPRINT LANES. 9. NO FALSE START RULE WILL APPLY. (TO BE CONFIRMED) A DEFINITION OF THE NO FALSE START PROCEDURE WILL BE RETUPNED WITH RE-ENTRY CARDS) 10. HEALTH AND INSURANCE ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ENTRANT. 11 Medication - NEW ASFGB DRUG CONTROLS ASFGB is now the enforcing body for drug control purposes and Masters swimmers who are taking medication need to be aware of the following laws in particular: Law 4.4 All medications being taken at the time of a doping test must be declared at the time of the test. Not to do so is a doping offence. Law 4.9 Where banned substances are being taken application must be made to the ASFGB or WASA Medical Officer for an exemption aHowing the banned substance but the application must be supported by a certificate from a qualified medical practitioner setting out the reasons why the banned substance is necessary. EXEMPTIONS WILL ONLY BE GRANTED IN CASES OF CLEAR AND COMPELLING CLINICAL NEED. The decision of the M.O.H. (Medical Officer of Health) is final. Protocol/Regulation 2.6 Anyone receiving medical treatment or who is taking prescribed drugs must report to the medical officer present BEFORE THE COMPETITION STARTS. 12. Disability - The appropriate disability form (either WASA or ASA) must be completed prior to the meet and handed to the referee. 13. Accommodation lists and directions to the pool are available from the WASA office.
