Division 2 winners !!

Result of Gala 16th Nov - Midland District Inter-county Gala

This year the event was at the Wolverhampton baths. It is an 8 lane 25 metre pool with quite a lot of seating. It was run as two divisions of 6 counties in each. Unfortunately two teams dropped out of the second division in which we competed but we won this division very convincingly.

Bedfordshire 147 points.
Worcestershire 99 points.
Nottinghamshire 76 points.
Shropshire 63 points.

A creation amount of enthusiastic carbohydrate loading went on in the coach.

For the first time in my experience we had a lady swimming in the 65+ events - well done Audrey - she swam in 7 events as did Basil in the 65+ men's events. We also had a number of swimmers competing with us for the first time Louise Prole, Amanda Hancox, Chris Gilmour - well done ! - and a special thank you to Katrina Jackson who stepped in to help a few minutes before the competition started. Also to Hugh Prole for helping with marshalling and getting split times. Clearly it is not safe to come along hoping just to watch Bedfordshire swim !!

We had two people drop out at the last minute for very good reasons and the team rallied round to fill all the gaps with Graham Powell swimming 9 events and others not far behind. We won 17 of the 51 events we entered and there were only 5 races which we did not contest. It is very difficult to get a 260+ team together and in our division no county could provide a team for the two relay events in this age group.

Here are the times for each event. The individual results come from the official results sheets. The relay times come from Hugh's recording of the splits from the electroimnic timing which did not always trigger so quite a few are missing. After that is an analysis of how the points came to us.

Thanks to all of you who swam and especially for everyone's co-operation in filling in gaps when people had to drop out. You all seemed willing to be flogged to death !! I will do a write-up with pictures in the next newsletter.
