Report on the Masters Inter-County Masters Championships, November 2013
Thank you and well done to all the Masters swimmers who formed the Bedfordshire team for the East Region Inter County Competition and a special thank you to John Bellis for organising the team. Here are John's reports on the event.
National Report
When all of the results from the five regional rounds were collated, Bedfordshire finished in a disappointing 18th place, a drop of two places from 2012, although this year we finished with 991.5 points, compared with the 2012 total of 794.5 points.
Warwickshire retained their title, with Devon getting the runners up spot, an improvement from 4th place in 2012, and Hampshire jumped from 8th in 2012 to finish in third place.
In the individual placing’s, 21 year old Lawrence Palmer (Team Luton) won the 18 and over 50 metre Breaststroke and finished 4th in the 50 metre Butterfly. Liz Woolner (Flitwick Dolphins) won the 45 and over 50 metre Butterfly, and finished in 4th place in the 50 metre Freestyle. Sarah Pearce (South Beds) finished 2nd in the 25 and over 50 metre Breaststroke, and Graham Powell (Team Luton) was the only other swimmer to obtain a top five finish, when finishing in 3rd place in the 55 years and over 50 metre Backstroke.
We had another eight individual results in the top ten, but it was in the Relays where Bedfordshire suffered, with only one team finishing in the top ten, the 140 and over 200 Medley Relay team of Cheryl Templeman (South Beds) Sarah Pearce (South Beds) Liz Woolner (Flitwick Dolphins) and Miriam Owens (Team Luton), out of the twenty relay events in the programme.
Overall, a disappointing result, considering Bedfordshire finished with 197 more points than they did in 2012.
