Beds Masters Syncro results from World Masters

Synchronised Swimming at World Masters

Last year, Mags Gallagher and her Duet partner Fran Eyre from Bedford, became the GB National Masters Champions in their age groups, solo and duet, in Synchronised Swimming in Sept 2003. They both belong to Bedford Beaversmasters SC and Mags is married to Danny Gallagher who swims in our inter-county team.

In the World Masters Championships in Riccione they entered the technical and free classes for Solo and Duet and in addition swimming with the Scottish Duet Champion in the Trio class - Susan Bowman, Margaret's niece. Liz Bowman (Margaret's sister), was Coach and Team Manager, so it was a real family affair. The synchro events tend to be dominated by Canada and the USA, not this year !

Duet routine - Mags on the left and Fran on the right.

They had to train >5 times per week both in Scotland and at the De Montfort University pool to achieve this standard in synchro. On average it takes a very competent swimmer about 18 years to reach this top level in Synchronised Swimming. They had the best GBR synchro results - well done !

Mags (40-49 age group) and Fran (50-59 age group) each came 4th in the World for Solo -  Tech + Free
Mags and Fran (40-49 age group) came 2nd in World for Duet -  Tech + Free
Mags, Fran and Susan (35-49 age group)  came 4th in the World for  Trio -  Tech + Free.

Canada 1st, GBR 2nd and Italy 3rd.
The Duet Medal ceremony. Mags is the on the left and Fran on the right in the second position.

They would also like to thank Alan Jackson for his words of encouragement / support.
