Wombourne Gala Result - 20 Jun 2004

We had an enjoyable day at Wombourne yesterday although we did come last ! We were only able to enter  36 out of 51 events due to a shortage of swimmers, particularly women. I am very grateful to all of you who did turn out for us. Sarah Wisson was our highest scorer getting a second place in 25+ backstroke. We got 6 third places and the rest were fourths. Once again the organisers seem to have been let down by invited teams and two lanes were empty. They were pleased to see as we do turn up each time even if we don't have a very strong team.

We managed to sit together in a corner by our lane which gave an even better than normal team spirit to the occasion. We were not able to get any officials from the county to help us so we did our own timekeeeping between ourselves which was particularly interesting in the cannon relay which is a 10x1 length race in which Steve Wood had to swim twice as we only had a team of 9 ! 

The overall result was
1. Warwickshire    175 points
2. Yorkshire          161 points
3. Staffordshire      112 points
4. Bedfordshire       44 points.
