Proposed East Region Masters Seminar 17 November 2013
At the meeting of the East Region Masters Technical Swimming Committee on 16th February, it was proposed that there be a Masters seminar at Newmarket on the morning of the Inter-county Masters Competition on 17th November 2013. Suggestions included a speaker on sports psychology, a speaker on diet & nutrition or a session on sports injuries by a physiotherapist. A representative at the meeting agreed to try to contact the physiotherapist that attended the Herts. County Champs to see if they were willing to attend. It was agreed that a charge would be made to those attending. Further information on this will be provided, as it becomes available.

County Masters Records
County Masters records continue to be broken in large numbers. Keith Spence (South Beds Masters) our Records Keeper, tells me that forty records were claimed at the first meet of the year - at Crawley Long Course. New record claims can be sent by  email  to: keithspence1@btinternet.com  or  by  post  to: Mr  Keith  Spence, 19  Roxburgh  Way,  Bletchley, Milton  Keynes  MK3  7NZ.  Claim forms are provided on the Beds ASA website ( http://www.bedscountyasa.com/ ) under Swimming -> Records -> scroll to bottom of page.

Recent Achievements

a. First Decathlon for Rita Egan

Rita Egan

While the successes of top swimmers are lauded, often there is no mention of swimmers, such as Rita, who swim at a disadvantage. Rita has a certificate of disability (which is the only way such swimmers can have their disability recognised as a masters swimmer). Currently there is no real way that we can give recognition to their endeavours. After all, it takes a good deal of determination to carry on swimming and competing when you know you are going to compete against able-bodied swimmers and are unlikely to appear on anyone's list of top swimmers. So we must congratulate Rita who has completed all ten events in her first Masters Decathlon, which included events such as 1500M Freestyle and 200M I/M which she didn't know she could complete.

b. Photo of Bedford Synchro success

Rachel Leontyne in action

Here is the photo of the Bedford Synchro swimmer who had success at the recent British Gas Masters Synchro. Competition as mentioned in an earlier newsletter. Bedford swimmer Rachel Leontyne (60.000) secured the win in the 40-49yrs age group for her technical routine.

Team Luton SC 2013 Masters Long Course Open Meet
We hear that entries for this competition are coming in steadily and advise swimmers to book early to ensure a place. The entry pack for the Team Luton Long Course Master Meet to be held at Inspire Luton Sports Village on Saturday 18th May 2013 is now available at:-
http://www.teamluton.com/index.php/competitions/long-course-masters-meet

Several swimmers have asked about the page in the entry pack about Poolside Passes. This does not apply to swimmers. Swimmers do not have to pay £15 to get on the poolside. It is intended for coaches and other non-swimmers.

The organiser, Simon Gee is also looking for offers of help with officiating. If you could help, or point people in his direction, email:- officials@teamluton.com .
