Revised Services for 2001:
These will focus on improved multimedia presentation of swimming.
Swimsite has joined Consume,
a high speed low cost user-owned network and will become operational
later this year.
This will allow us to provide a new "Full Screen" video service for those
with high speed links (e.g. Consume at 11,000Kbps,
ADSL at 512Kbps, Cable Modem at 512Kbps, etc.).
Other high speed services will follow.
A test video of parts of the ASA Masters Inter-County meet at Grantham,
streaming at ~300Kbps, will be available shortly.
The Live365 radio service will be terminated.
The alternative RealRadio (for those with RealPlayer) and VosaicRadio
(for those without)
are advert free, give better continuous play and better selection of
listening.
Swimmers' use of the Live365 swimsite radio was very low.
The ASA Supplied Information Service will terminate -
as the ASA now have a website.
As Swimsite has a policy
to avoid duplicating of material that is already on the web,
and as British swimming clubs increasingly provide their own information,
reference will be made to their results, records, entry forms, etc.
rather than providing these directly.
This will allow (me) more time for developing advanced multimedia and
interactive services.
